The Meghalaya Government met with the 16th Finance Commission of India in Shillong today to present a comprehensive overview of the state’s current status and the various challenges it faces.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, along with other state ministers and government officials. Representing the 16th Finance Commission were Dr. Arvind Panagariya, the Chairman, and its members.
16th Finance Commission in Meghalaya
Conrad Sangma presents the road map for Meghalaya’s growth highlighting its developmental needs and the challenges it faces in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The goal was to ensure that the Finance Commission’s recommendations adequately address the state’s specific requirements and contribute to its overall development.

Further, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma also handed over the the State Memorandum to Chairperson, Dr. Arvind Panagariya during the meeting.
Conrad Sangma in a post on X(formerly Twitter) stressed the need to transform Meghalaya into an exemplary state. He stated “We are grateful for the 16th Finance Commission’s engaged listening and expert recommendations, and look forward to working together to make Meghalaya an exemplary state, playing a vital role in ever-growing India“
