The State Government of Meghalaya takes another initiative in empowering the research scholars in the state of Meghalaya. Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma today launched a website and portal of the Chief Minister Research Grant (CMRG) to support scholars and researchers of the state.

The Chief Minister Research Grant (CMRG) is the portal to support the scholars and researchers by providing a grant, a budget of 3 lakh per research will be provided for 50 research projects, initially.
The CMRG has been initiated to develop high-quality research studies, to meet the progressive trajectory in line with the state’s current developmental initiatives. The Chief Minister said through the website and portal different scholars and researchers can apply to conduct research and documentation.
This special grant, an initiative of the Chief Minister, aims to engage and encourage the citizens and scholars of Meghalaya to undertake quality research and documentation in various areas of interest.
Application Process: How to Apply

- Any individual who has an interest in undertaking research must have a minimum Bachelor’s degree in any Social Science discipline from a UGC-recognized Central University or a State University of Meghalaya.
- Registered institutes and organizations under 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act as well as registered societies are also eligible to apply. However, they must specify who (the Project Director) will undertake the research project.
- Receipt of applications will close at 11:59 pm on the 20th of July 2024.
Selection process
The selection process involves scrutiny by a CMRG Committee, followed by personal interviews held in Shillong. The selected candidates must demonstrate familiarity with research methodologies.
The selected scholars will be intimated by the 2nd week of August 2024. The final list of selected candidates will be published online.
The release of 1st installment to the selected awardees will be on the 15th of August 2024. Followed by the 2nd and 3rd installments after the submission of the required detailed research document.

Conclusion
This is a great initiative by the government of Meghalaya to encourage research scholars. Chief Minister at the time of the launch of the website stated, that there is no support, and there is no mechanism to help them, hence, this initiative will provide them with much-needed support to pursue their research.
