Google is reportedly following a bi-yearly basis for Android TV OS releases and plans to skip Android 15 for its Smart TV OS lineup, moving directly to Android 16 by 2026. Currently, Android 14 TV OS is the latest version released this year, featuring exciting updates and AI integration.
Android 15 Skip, Android TV 16 Release in 2026
According to a report on Android Authority, Google reportedly announced a change in its release schedule for Android TV OS at its recent Android TV partner conference. Google said to adopt a bi-yearly release cycle for Android TV OS, which means that Android 15 will not be launched for smart TVs, with the next major update expected in Android 16.
The report highlights that Google did not comment on the change in its release schedule when asked.

Previously, Google has skipped versions in its Android TV OS cycle, such as when it bypassed Android TV 13 and went directly to Android TV 14, which launched earlier this year.
