Many of us use UPI for payments or scan QR codes for transactions. However, to use UPI payments, a bank account is typically required. But did you know you can now use UPI payments even without a bank account, thanks to new features?
I will guide you on how to use a UPI ID without a bank account.
UPI without bank accounts
UPI Circle is the new feature that will be rolled out soon and it lets your family use your UPI account to make payments with it. It’s a super useful feature for dependents such as parents, kids, household help, or even friends who keep asking for money.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced this feature to make UPI more accessible. This is primarily useful for people who are not equipped with digital payments
If you don’t have a bank account, you can still make payments using the UPI Circle feature on the BHIM UPI app. Here’s how it works:
- Open the BHIM UPI app and select the “Add Family or Friend” option.
- Add a trusted family member or friend to your circle.
Once added, you will have two options: Partial Delegation and Full Delegation.
- Partial Delegation: When you scan a UPI QR code and initiate a payment, a notification is sent to the selected family member or friend. They can approve and complete the payment from their linked bank account.
- Full Delegation: You are authorized to send payments directly, up to ₹15,000 monthly and Rs 5000 per transaction, using your bank account. This allows you to make payments without requiring their real-time approval.
This feature is especially helpful for individuals without a bank account, enabling them to make payments conveniently through a trusted individual’s account.
