The latest processor from Mediatek, the Dimensity 9400, is considered a powerhouse capable of competing with the Apple A18 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, despite its impressive performance, a significant issue affects its suitability for gaming.
Tests conducted on smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9400 have revealed limitations in gaming support. For instance, while Grid Legends runs smoothly on Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered devices, it is incompatible with devices using the Dimensity 9400. Users cannot install the game via the Play Store, which displays a message stating that their device is not compatible with the app’s current version.
Furthermore, popular smartphones like the Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8, powered by the Dimensity 9400, do not support peak graphics settings in games like Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. In contrast, competitors such as the iQOO 13 and Realme GT7 Pro—equipped with features like game frame interpolation—allow games such as Genshin Impact to be played at 120 FPS.
These issues highlight a challenge for Mediatek’s Dimensity series regarding developer optimization and gaming support. While the Dimensity 9400 is a strong contender in terms of raw performance, its limited compatibility with certain games may deter gaming enthusiasts.
Mediatek may address these limitations in future updates, but until then, gamers may need to weigh the processor’s performance against its gaming support concerns when choosing a device.
