The giant AI company behind ChatGPT OpenAI recently announced SearchGPT an AI-powered search engine. This AI-powered search engine will compete the search engines like Google and Bing.
OpenAI SearchGPT
The SearchGPT will be similar to the current feature Google integrates into its search engine known as the AI Overview where an AI-generated summary is provided for the search query, but this feature has faced a backlash from users over false information.
OpenAI said that the new search features are designed to combine the strength of its AI model with the information from the web to offer fast and timely answers with relevant sources.
This is a screenshot from the OpenAI blog this is how the relevant source will be linked in the new search. SearchGPT will answer directly the user’s query and provide relevant links to the source that let users explore more on the questions. This will be different from the traditional search engine like Google or Bing which provide a list of web pages related to the search query.
How does it work?
Open AI says that SearchGPT tries to help users connect with publishers by linking and citing them in searches and the AI-generated answers are also named attribution, so this lets users know from where the information is coming. For instance, if users search for music festivals, the AI-powered search engine summarizes the results and gives a short description of the event along with links from where the information comes from.
This is how the SearchGPT will work, the company said that is separate from training OpenAI’s generative AI foundation models and stated that sites that have opted out of generative AI training can also appear in search results.

Conclusion
SearchGPT prototype will probably integrate with ChatGPT powered by the GPT-4 family of models, however, it will be available for 10,000 test users at launch.
This SearchGPT will be very similar to Google’s AI overview feature which might give Google tough competition. However, the future of search engines might be like this as the increase dominates Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Tech industry.
