Do you know about the latest launch smartphone considered to be the cheapest 5G smartphone by Redmi in India? The Redmi A4 5G is now available, but the Poco M6 5G remains the most affordable 5G smartphone, priced at ₹7,500 for some time with the Airtel offer. Currently, the Poco M6 5G is listed at ₹7,999 on Flipkart, while the Redmi A4 5G is priced slightly higher at ₹8,960.
The higher price of the Redmi A4 5G might be justified as it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 5G processor, which is more powerful than the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 5G processor found in the Poco M6 5G. In comparison, the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 5G processor delivers performance similar to the Snapdragon 695 5G. For a smartphone priced under ₹9,000, this level of performance is impressive.
However, it’s important to note that the Redmi A4 5G supports only standalone (SA) 5G networks. This means it is compatible with Jio’s True 5G network, which uses standalone technology, but not Airtel’s 5G, which relies on non-standalone (NSA) networks. Redmi’s decision might be influenced by the fact that most budget smartphone users prefer Jio True 5G SIMs over Airtel.
That said, Airtel is expected to roll out standalone 5G networks shortly, and even BSNL is working on implementing both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. Once these developments occur, compatibility with standalone networks will become more widespread, benefiting devices like the Redmi A4 5G.
