AMD Launches New 8000 F-Series Processors for Budget-Friendly Gaming

AMD has launched the new 8000 F-series processors, ideal for entry-level gaming and productivity performance. Unlike the 8000G series announced in January (an APU with integrated graphics), the 8000 F-series processors lack an integrated GPU (iGPU). This allows for a more budget-friendly option for those who plan to use a dedicated graphics card. Both the 8000 F and 8000G series processors are compatible with AM5 sockets.

Performance

The 8000 F series consists of two processors: the Ryzen 7 8700F and the Ryzen 5 8400F. Their specifications are very similar to the 8000G series, with the key difference being the lack of an integrated GPU in the F-series. The 8000G series includes an integrated graphics card, while the 8000F series requires a dedicated graphics card to function.

Both processors are built on Zen 4 cores using TSMC’s 4nm process and are compatible with AM5 sockets, just like the previous 7000 series. The Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F both come bundled with an AMD Wraith Stealth cooler.

Ryzen 7 8700F

The Ryzen 7 8700F features 8 cores and 16 threads with a base clock speed of 4.1 GHz and a boost clock of up to 5.0 GHz. It has 24MB of total cache (including 8MB L2 and 16MB L3) and a TDP of 65W. According to AMD, this processor is “Ryzen AI Ready,” meaning it has a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) onboard. However, to utilize the full AI features, it needs to be paired with an AMD Radeon 7000 series GPU. AMD claims this processor delivers 24% better gaming performance and 22% better performance in other processing tasks compared to the Intel Core i5-14400F.

Ryzen 5 8400F

The Ryzen 5 8400F is positioned as a mid-range gaming CPU. It boasts 6 cores and 12 threads with a base clock speed of 4.2 GHz and a boost clock of up to 4.7 GHz. It also has 22MB of total cache (6MB L2 and 16MB L3) and maintains the same 65W TDP as the Ryzen 7 8700F. Unlike the Ryzen 7 8700F, the Ryzen 5 8400F does not possess “Ryzen AI Ready” capabilities.

Pricing and availability

The new AMD 8000 F-series processors will be available at major online and offline retailers. The estimated price for the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F is USD $269 (approximately Rs. 22,463 in Indian currency), and the AMD Ryzen 5 8400F is priced at USD $169 (approximately Rs. 14,112 in Indian currency).

Conclusion

The new AMD 8000 F-series processors are a great option for gamers and users who prioritize a powerful CPU without an integrated graphics card. This allows for a more affordable build while allocating budget towards a dedicated GPU for optimal gaming and editing performance.
