Oppo’s Ambitious Plan to Integrate AI Across All its Smartphones by 2024

The Chinese smartphone company, Oppo announced that it aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) thoughout its smartphones products by the end of 2024, bringing AI features to 50 millions users. This inititive is in colloboration with other firms, including Google, Microsoft and MediaTek.

Oppo’s Commitment to Providing AI Features

Earlier this year, Oppo setup Oppo AI center in Shenzhen, with the aim to researching and developing AI capabalities in image processing, computer vision, speech technology, natural language processing, and machine learning. However, Oppo has reportedly ensured that user date will not use in AI model training andnd has committed to maintaining its security and privacy protection.

Using this center, Oppo aims to introduce over 100 generative AI features to its smartphones. Oppo claims that these features will ehance user’s experience in the areas such as image processing, speech technology, and natural language processing. Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer of OPPO, also added that Oppo aims to become a contributor and Promoter of AI smartphone, with the rise of Next gen AI smartphone set to tranform the smartphone industry.

Oppo’s Collaboration in AI Enhancement

To achieve these commitments, Oppo is collaborating with Google, Mrocrosoft and MediaTek. The Patnership with Google helps Oppo redefine its AI capabilities through Google Gemini LLMs, offering features like an AI writer that assist users in content creation by suggesting sentence and completion of senstence, word choise, prossibly grammar correction and language translation. Additionally, the AI recoding summary fetures will automatically summarize meeting, transcripts, and podcasts, highlighting key information for users.

Meanwhile, the patnership with Microsoft, will introduce features like Microsoft Fast Transcription and Neural Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology to Oppo smartphones. These features will make voice-to-text conversion smooth, ehnacing user experience. Oppo users can also directly use Microsoft’s Desktop Copilot directly on their smartphones via connected PC to perform various task such as generate content, translate text messages, and more.

Lastly, the colloboartion with MEdiaTek, Oppo focuses on developing dedicated AI capable chips or the Neural Processing Unit (NPUs) for acceleration. This will ensure smooth AI processing with dedicated chip specially designed to process machine learning algorithms.

Nichole Zhang, GM – AI Product at OPPO, emphasized the role of generative AI in the evolution of artificial intelligence and highlighted Oppo’s deep collaboration with Google Cloud in advancing AI for smartphones.

According to a report by IDC, the number of AI-enabled phones priced under $1,000 are expected to increase by 250% in 2024, reaching 35 million units. This highlight the growith of AI intragtion smartphone users are rising, making everyday tasks easier and providing a superior user experience.
