Tura: In a surprising turn of events, the might of the ruling NPP in Meghalaya crumbled as its MP candidate Agatha Sangma failed to retain Tura, the party’s stronghold, and lost an election to Congress’ Saleng Sangma by 155241 votes. Meanwhile, AITC’s Zenith M Sangma came third with only 48709 votes.

National People party (NPP) candidate Agatha Sangma cannot defend her MP seat, losing to Shaleng Sangma congress candidate with huge margin of over 1.3 lakh votes. Tura has been held by Sangma family for four decades now.

This is a great loss for the NPP as the strong hold of NPP over Garo hills has been destroyed by Congress. The NPP who had support of 18 NPP MLAs from Garo hills couldn’t retain the Tura seat, losing to one congress candidate.
